Consumer Trust in Digital Currency Transactions: A Study of Biometric and Blockchain Integration

Abstract

The rapid growth of digital currency transactions has transformed the global financial landscape, offering speed, decentralisation, and convenience in modern payment systems. However, despite these advantages, consumer trust remains a major barrier to the wider adoption of digital currencies. Concerns relating to security breaches, identity theft, fraud, privacy, and the complexity of digital transaction systems continue to undermine user confidence. This paper examines how the integration of biometric payment systems and blockchain technology can enhance consumer trust in digital currency transactions. Biometric payment systems, including fingerprint, facial recognition, iris scanning, and voice authentication, provide a more secure and user-specific method of identity verification, reducing the risk of unauthorised access and fraudulent activities. At the same time, blockchain technology contributes to trust by offering transparency, immutability, traceability, and decentralised verification of transactions. The paper adopts a conceptual and analytical approach, drawing on existing literature on financial technology, digital trust, cybersecurity, and payment innovation to explore the combined value of these technologies. It argues that the convergence of biometric authentication and blockchain infrastructure creates a more reliable, efficient, and secure transaction environment that can address both technological and psychological dimensions of consumer trust. The study concludes that integrating these technologies has significant potential to improve user confidence, strengthen transaction integrity, and promote broader acceptance of digital currency systems. The paper also highlights key challenges, including privacy concerns, regulatory uncertainty, technological costs, and ethical issues, which must be addressed to ensure sustainable implementation.
